The Tha Tien Pier to Wat Arun Ferry is especially popular among tourists visiting Thailand's capital city. This cross-river ferry operates between two of the city's most important historic landmarks, Wat Pho in Bangkok Old Town and Wat Arun on the other side of the Chao Phraya River.

1. Tha Tien Pier

Tha Tien Pier, in some sources spelled as Tha Tian Pier, is located at the end of Thai Wang Road on the eastern bank of the Chao Phraya River, opposite the iconic Wat Arun temple.

The pier consists of two docks. To board the ferry to Wat Arun, you need to go to the ferry dock, which is located on the left side of the pier.

The cross-river ferry is a very popular service here, as it's a very affordable way to get to Wat Arun from the old town. Therefore, the pier often gets crowded, so you might need to wait a bit to board the ferry.

2. Wat Arun Pier

Located on the bank of the Chao Phraya River, Wat Arun is one of the most impressive temples in Bangkok, which is a popular tourist destination in the Thai capital.

Wat Arun Pier, which is serving as the main gateway to the iconic temple, consists of several docks. To board the ferry to Tha Tien Pier, you need to go to the ferry dock, which is the northernmost dock (after exiting the temple, you need to go to the left).

The Chao Phraya Express Boat is the main public boat service operating along the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. As you might find conflicting information online, note that the public boats of the Chao Phraya Express Boat don't stop at Wat Arun!

In case you want to take the Orange Flag Boat or the daytime Yellow Flag Boat from Wat Arun, you need to take this cross-river ferry to Tha Tien Pier first.

After the recent price update in April 2026, the ferry costs 7 THB per person for a one-way ticket. The fee for taking a bicycle or stroller to the ferry is 15 THB.

Only cash is accepted for payments.

To board the cross-river ferry at Tha Tien Pier, you need to buy tickets at the desk just before the ferry dock. The ticket desk is easy to notice as it displays the price list of "Ferry crossing to Wat Arun".

At Wat Arun Pier, there is also a ticket counter just before the ferry dock. Look for the sign indicating "Ferry to Tha Tien Pier".

Travelers who have a one-day hop-on hop-off boat pass can use the Chao Phraya Tourist Boat to travel directly to Wat Arun. In such a case, dropping off at Tha Tien and taking a cross-river ferry is not needed.

The ferry operates from 05:00 to 19:00, with a boat normally leaving every 10 minutes or so.

Located near Tha Tien Pier, Wat Pho, also known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, is a Buddhist temple famous for its 46-meter-long gold-plated reclining Buddha image and the biggest collection of Buddha images in Thailand. This cross-river ferry lets you easily visit both famous temples.

There are several riverside viewpoints for admiring the views of the Chao Phraya River and Wat Arun on the other side of the river. You can choose a public viewpoint or one of the rooftop bars and terraces found nearby.
